Your questions answered
Common questions
When is the makerspace open?
Members get their own key, which means 24/7 access — like having your own workshop whenever you want.
Not a member yet? You can visit during:
Maker Monday open houses (free and open to the public)
Public events, classes, or workshops
As a guest of a member
How much does it cost to be a member?
Membership is just $25 a month — that’s less than a dollar a day.
For perspective:
A single quality saw blade or drill bit can cost $25.
A woodworking tool like a planer or jointer can run $150–$500.
Renting studio space for ceramics or metalworking often costs far more than our monthly dues.
At MakeICT, your membership gives you access to thousands of dollars’ worth of tools, studios, and shared space — plus the chance to learn, collaborate, and build with others.
How much do classes cost?
Most classes are affordable and beginner-friendly, ranging from sewing and woodworking to 3D printing and electronics.
Prices vary depending on materials and instructor.
Members save at least $5 on every class.
What about materials?
For most projects, members bring their own materials. But don’t worry — we’ve got options:
Some areas (like 3D printing and electronics) have starter supplies for a small contribution.
Our woodshop and laser area often have free scrap pieces you can use to experiment.
- In addition to this, you can find suggestions for where to buy materials by asking the community about resources on our forum.
Can I bring a friend or relative?
Yes! Members are welcome to bring friends and family along. If you’re curious, the easiest way to check us out is to come as a guest or visit on a Maker Monday open house.
What about kids and youth?
Kids and teens are welcome!
Under 18? You’ll need an adult sponsor.
Under 16? A parent or adult must be with you at all times.
Many families join together and make it a shared experience.
Do I need training before I can use the tools?
Some tools — like the laser cutter, 3D printers, or woodshop — require a quick orientation to keep everyone safe. You can get trained by:
Attending a class
Joining a group authorization session
Scheduling with a volunteer
Be sure to either contact the lead of the area you would like to get started with and read through the wiki to learn as much about the area as possible before getting started.
How do I join?
Joining is easy and only takes a few minutes online. Sign up at makeict.org/join/ and start creating right away!
